We have been following this three-legged female Elk for a few years. In the past she had a problem to keep up with herd and always brought up the rear, many time’s limping to catch up. I thought for sure that she would not make another winter as easy prey for the local wolves. But she has a collection of Elk that follow her and protect her.
Yesterday morning I was shocked to see a 3-legged Elk galloping by our house, full tilt and on a mission to lead the herd. She appears to have adapted well to the loss of her leg.
