A “tipi” also tepe , tepee or teepee means “dwelling”. A meaningful sight in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains at Morley, about 65 kms west of Calgary, Alberta.
The colourful teepee village is located near the entrance of the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino along side the Kananaskis Trail Hwy 40. As you drive down the Trans Canada Highway the Teepee Village is hard to miss, a group of a dozen teepee’s have been hand painted by Stoney First Nations people and the designs created are of nature and the land.
The Village is meant to give the Stoney Nakoda people a place to honor their past, to allow for the community’s cultural ceremonies and educational opportunities for their children.
Visitors are welcome to visit and enjoy the opportunity to experience and learn more about the Stoney Nation people, culture and traditions.
