The Cascade waterfall is now frozen and adds itself to a list of several popular ice climbs in the Bow Valley which many say is the best ice climbing in North America. The Cascade is the most visible and the easiest to access as it towers over the Trans Canada Highway near the first exit into the town of Banff. The ice climbing of Cascade is a favourite for local climbers and also attract’s ice climbers from around the world with its excellent grade ice and 300 metres of climbing. Considered by some climbers as the best anywhere, climbing the frozen waterfall is a busy place on weekends with its 5 minute approach.
Great photo op, take a tripod and you can walk to the base but should be prepared to use crampons (cleats for ice & snow) and be aware of the avalanche risks.
