The maximum longevity of the Red-winged Blackbird in the wild is 15.8 years. The average lifespan of Bald Eagles in the wild is around 20 years, with the oldest confirmed one having been 28 years of age.
The Black Swan is common in the wetlands of south western and eastern Australia. The Black Swan is also very popular as an ornamental waterbird in western Europe, especially Britain, escapes are commonly reported and are now breeding at dozens of sites across the country.

A mature Black Swan measures between 110 and 142 centimetres (43 and 56 in) in length and weighs 4–9 kilograms (8–20 lb). Its wing span is between 1.6 and 2 metres (5.2 and 6.6 ft)

Like other swans, the Black Swan is largely monogamous, pairing for life (about 6% divorce rate). Recent studies have shown that around a third of all broods exhibit extra-pair paternity.

An estimated one-quarter of all pairings are homosexual, mostly between males. They steal nests, or form temporary threesomes with females to obtain eggs, driving away the female after she lays the eggs.

The painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) is the most widespread native turtle of North America. It lives in slow-moving fresh waters, from southern Canada to Louisiana and northern Mexico, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Fossils show that the painted turtle existed 15 million years ago.
A cold-blooded reptile, the painted turtle regulates its temperature through its environment, notably by basking. All ages bask for warmth, often alongside other species of turtle.

Courtship begins when a male follows a female until he meets her face-to-face. He then strokes her face and neck with his elongated front claws, a gesture returned by a receptive female.

One place in the Rocky Mountains that try’s hard to keep winter going is Lake Louise. The Lake is located at an elevation of 1,750 metres (or 5,760 feet) and experiences a subarctic climate. Lake Louise enjoys an annual (average) snowfall of 304cm (or 3.3m or 10 feet). Winter temperatures below −50°C have been recorded. Summers consist of frosty mornings and crisp, cool days. Snow can occur in any month of the year and the Lake will thaw sometime in early June.

Roadside ice climbers near Roger’s Pass in Glacier National Park, British Columbia, Canada.
For the climbers there are two types of ice, Alpine ice is frozen precipitation, whereas water ice is a frozen liquid flow of water. Most alpine ice is generally one component of a longer route and often less technical, having more in common with standard glacier travel, while water ice is selected largely for its technical challenge.
